About the Guild

Who we are

Painters, poets, songwriters, and makers of every kind, learning to offer their work back to God.

Our calling

Faithful people, honest work

The St. Mags Artist’s Guild gathers artists from within the Saint Magdalene’s community. We pray together, eat together, and make things together, and we push one another toward two kinds of growth: deeper faithfulness to Christ and stronger skill in the work our hands do. What we make, we offer back to the parish and to the city we love.

Our budding Guild gathers artists of all stripes from within our community. Visual artists, poets, and musicians of every level of experience are welcome, and we support the lifelong growth of everyone’s creative expression.

Three callings

What we’re here to do

  1. i.

    Form artists

Walking with artists as they grow in their craft and in their life with Jesus, so their gifts become what God meant them to be.

  2. ii.

    Awaken the parish

Bringing beauty into worship and parish life, so our congregation meets God, one another, and the world more deeply through the arts.

  3. iii.

    Bless the city

Offering honest, beautiful work to Atlanta’s neighborhoods, venues, and shared spaces as one small part of God making all things new.

What we believe

Re-imagining what art can be

God’s supreme expression of himself in this world is the incarnation: Jesus, who walked and spoke and ate among us. Jesus’ primary tool for teaching was story. We believe God created us to commune with him through the tangible materials of his creation and the stories of our Spirit-filled imaginations.

In our current age, art is often commodified, its worth measured by what it can produce monetarily. We believe that is backwards. We want to re-imagine what art and creativity can be, and what they once were: a way to bring glory to God and enrich our community.

Our mediums

Many hands, one offering

Our aim is a space where artists support one another, share skills and knowledge, and work together on events that help others enjoy the presence of God through the creative.
